Hair spray is a common household aqueous solution that is used to keep hair stiff or in a certain style. Weaker than hair gel , hair wax , or glue, it is sprayed using a pump or aerosol spray nozzle. Spray on hair was one of the first hair loss concealers. Many innovations have come along since. Although there are many brands of spray on hair, the concept is the same - a cosmetic colorant in an aerosol can. Of the three types of hair loss concealers, spray on hair is our least favorite. Chop one lemon (or an orange for dry hair). Place in a pot with 2 cups water. Boil until half of the initial amount remains. Cool, strain, and place in a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator. If it is too sticky, add more water. Add one ounce rubbing alcohol as a preservative and then the spray can be stored for up to two weeks unrefrigerated. Hairspray was first invented and marketed in 1950 by the hair products company Helene Curtis, based in Chicago, Illinois, under the trademark spray net. Its active ingredient is a suitable polymer; e.g. the chemical elastesse , a form of liquid elastic that keeps the hair stiff and firm without snapping it and pytocalcious which lowers the amount of minerals in the hair root causing the hair to become stiff, or polyvinylpyrrolidone . Excessive use or lack of washing after hair spray may lead to dull or damaged hair. Most hair sprays are scented .

- Spritz is a spray-on setting lotion. Apply to wet or dry hair. Use to make curls last longer. It adds height to short cuts if used on root area and gives body to long hair.
